1930s Wood & Sons Aquila Blue and White H H & G Small Oval Platter
This is a lovely 1930s Wood & Sons Aquila Blue and White H H & G Small Oval Platter. The pattern is Aquila and features an eagle in flight.
Approximate Dimensions:
- Length: 28.5cm
- Width: 21cm
- Depth: 2cm
It was designed by Frederick A. Rhead, father of the celebrated Art deco potter, Charlotte Rhead.
Two versions of Aquila were made:-
- Indented rim with ochre trim
- Piecrust rim without the ochre trim
This particular platter has the indented rim with the ochre trim. In great condition, with a few, very fine, surface blemishes but no cracks, chips or restoration. There is a small amount of crazing.

Toby Jug printed mark (used 1930 onwards)
Hales, Hancock and Godwin Ltd (1922-1960) were retailers, originally based in London. Aquila was actually a design made by Wood and Sons.
