1930s Royal Doulton Country Cottages Sandwich Tray
This a wonderfully vibrant, and quite rare, Art Deco 1930s Royal Doulton Country Cottages Sandwich Tray. The pattern is similar to ‘Country Cottages’ or ‘Rustic England’ but there is no pattern back mark.
The scene depicts English Country cottages surrounded by trees with a foreground of brown bare earth and a background of a bright yellow sky. The colours are quite vibrant.
The tray is in very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. The tray is not flawless and does exhibit some manufacturing defects, for example, glazing marks, pin holes, flow marks: these have been present since the plate was first fired. There are also a few minor scuff marks/ tiny scratches on the plate surface.
