1930s Hobbies Model Pattern no. 211 For A HMS Ark Royal Galleon
This is a 1930s Hobbies Model Pattern no. 211 For A HMS Ark Royal Galleon, which would be 22 inch (length) by 18 inch (height) if actually built from wood based on this blueprint.
What did the youth of the 1930s/40s do as hobbies before the advent of mobile phones, Wii, and X-boxes? The answer is they built and played with home made toys and games!
‘Hobbies,’ of Dereham, Norfolk, produced a whole series of model patterns/blueprints/plans to collect. This particular one is an original special issue pattern, No.211, for making a 16th Century wooden version of the infamous Galleon, Ark Royal, which fought against the Spanish Armada in 1588.
The pattern is in fair condition, with yellowing, creasing and nibbles at the edges. There are a few slight tears but these could be repaired from the rear with judicious use of suitable tape!
Approximate Unfolded Pattern Size
Height: 51 cm
Width: 76 cm
The face of the pattern has the blue print for making Ark Royal's component parts.
This would make a great poster for framing or, for the woodworkers and carpenters amongst you, actually use it as intended to make a model Ark Royal Galleon!
‘Hobbies,’ founded in 1895, can still be found in Norfolk, UK, but are now based in Raveningham.
