1930s Cossor Radio Eagle Kings Of The Air Advertising Figurine Number 285

This 1930s Cossor Radio Eagle Kings Of The Air Advertising Figurine Number 285 is almost unique, especially in such lovely original condition. It would have sat on a counter or in a shop window and would have been a real talking point!

Approximate Size:

  • Height: 30.6cm (~ 1 foot)
  • Wingspan: 30cm (1 foot)
  • Base Depth: 16.3cm

The Eagle is finely cast from spelter (smelted zinc) and is perched on top of a rock face constructed from painted Papier-mâché. Considering the base is made from such a delicate substance (paper pulp), its amazing that it has survived in such good condition. It is missing paint and gilding, and there are scuffs/scratches/blemishes on the figurine commensurate with age and use. I have tried to show the defects in the images.

Very few of these figurines were manufactured so, if you are lucky enough to find one, they have often been re-gilded and re-painted. This figurine is in original condition.

This eagle figurine would suit radio historians and collectors as well as eagle lovers and artwork collectors.

The advertising slogan is centred on the front of the rock face.

COSSOR

KINGS OF THE AIR

Inside the paper mâché base is a manufacturer's label:-

A.C.Cossor Ltd

Cossor Works.

Highbury Grove,

London N.5

COSSOR EAGLE

No. 285

Cossor were instrumental in the advancement of radio and radar. They manufactured equipment ranging from thermionic valves, electronic instruments and, from the 1920s, radio sets.  The original radio sets were sold in kit form under Cossor's new advertising slogan "Kings Of The Air," using an eagle as their logo: see original advertising image (not included).
