1920s The Kay Electrical Outfit Electronics Toy With Electric Motor / Induction Coil and Leads / Bulbs

I think this, almost antique, 1920s The Kay Electrical Outfit Electronics Toy With Electric Motor / Induction Coil and Leads / Bulbs is wonderful. Original, vintage Electrical Collector’s Toy: a real piece of electronics history and it was designed for children to self-build simple electrical circuits e.g. a lamp or door bell (no iPads in those days)!

Approximate Size:
Cardboard Box measures: 34.7cm Width x 28cm depth x 6.8cm Height

Made by Kay Sports Co, London, UK: makers of Kay Chemistry/Glass Blowing outfits, sports equipment and indoor games. The Electrical set is exquisitely made, and comes with its original hard cardboard box, which is slightly scuffed and marked with tears on the corners.

Kay Sports Co. (established in 1929) was affiliated to S.E.L (Signalling Equipment Limited).

This is a real vintage technology or toy collector’s find, and I hope the eventual owner loves it as much as I do :-). Very rare, museum quality, and in great condition, this collector’s toy comprises several early electronic components including:-

  • An electric motor (possibly made by S.E.L)
  • Kay Induction coil with rod and cylinders.
  • Battery Block
  • Woolco Bijou Torch Battery (a Woolworths UK brand). Unfortunately, most of the couriers will no longer ship anything with batteries, so this vintage battery will not be included.
  • Solenoid Buzzer
  • Light bulbs and various shades in different colours and sizes. (One light bulb is broken)
  • Swinging arm compass bulb holders
  • Corks
  • Two Switches
  • Leads & connectors

There are no instructions with the toy and I’m not sure if all the original components are present or what they all are, but it does seem fairly intact with very little or no use! None of the components have been tested.
