1920s Ebonite Loudspeaker Horn For GEC Gecophone Model A BC2600
This wonderful looking object is a 1920s Ebonite Loudspeaker Horn For GEC Gecophone Model A BC2600, made by General Electric Company in 1925.
Approximate Size:
- Horn Max. Diameter: 35.7 cm (~14")
- Height: 68cm
(NB: Since it is so big it will have to be shipped via courier, hence the higher cost of postage)
Made of moulded Ebonite (vulcanised rubber) with a brass ferrule.
It's a Radio Loudspeaker horn used, as part of the Gecophone loudspeaker system, to enhance the sound acoustics from a crystal set or gramophone before loudspeakers had been perfected. This allowed a room of people to listen as opposed to an individual using headphones.
Engraved with GEC at the rear towards the metal ferrule.
The horn and loudspeaker were advertised in the June 17th 1925 edition of Wireless World (see image).
In good condition, with a few surface scuffs commensurate with age and use.
