1890s Dudson Brothers Brown Jasperware Hot Water Jug With Pewter Lid

This is a gorgeous 1890s Dudson Brothers Brown Jasperware Hot Water Jug With Pewter Lid and embossed with white Greek figures.

The jug is in very good condition, with no restoration work, cracks or chips.

There is a maker's mark on the pewter lid, which I can't make out, but is probably the famous pewterers and silversmiths, Grayson & son, who produced lever mounted metal covers for Dudson Brothers.

The Back Mark was one used by Dudson when they were still based in Hanley, Staffordshire, UK.

Some Trivia For You!

Jasper Ware or Jasperware is an unglazed vitreous fine stoneware made in blue, green, lilac, yellow, brown, black or white; one piece could combine three or more of these colours.  Developed by Wedgwood but used extensively by other manufacturers in the Potteries area including Dudson Brothers.

Dudson is a family of British potters renowned for their hotel ware and jasperware. They are the oldest surviving ceramic business in 'The Potteries,' Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire.
