WW2 US Army Signal Corps Throat Microphone T-30-Q Made By Western Electric

This wonderful looking historic device is a boxed WW2 US Army Signal Corps Throat Microphone T-30-Q Made By Western Electric, New Jersey, USA.

This throat microphone is New Old Stock and has never been issued. Consequently, it is in very good cosmetic condition, and still has the original elastic neckband and October 1942 'Restricted Issue' instruction leaflet.

The T-30 microphone has lead to a two-pronged PL-291 plug, which would have been connected to a JK-48 jack on a SW-141 push-to-talk switch (the latter two items are not included).

It is marked on the side in red with SC6296A, and embossed with:-
Western Electric T-30-Q
Made in USA
D173077

The original cardboard storage box is intact, albeit with one flap missing, and has some surface blemishes.

Approximate Size Of Box
  • Width: 11.4cm
  • Height: 6.3 cm
  • Depth: 5.2cm

A fantastic collectible artefact for all collectors of Militaria and amateur radio enthusiasts.

The original, 'Restricted' issue, Instruction Sheet was published with the authority of the Chief Signal Officer with transmission to unauthorised persons prohibited by law under the Espionage Act U.S.C 31 & 32!

The T-30-V were the preferred microphones of the WW2 United States Army Air Force but were also used by tank crews. Sound was picked up & transmitted as vibrations through a carbon microphone worn just above the Adam's Apple . Air crew reported that voices could be heard better over background engine noise better than other types of microphones.
