Vintage Negretti And Zambra Thermograph R38495

This is a very nice, small, Vintage Negretti And Zambra Thermograph R38495 in a black cast metal casing. It dates to approximately 1950s. The R series numbering started with R101 in 1920: R standing for ‘Recording.’

A thermograph is a chart recorder which records the temperature on a revolving cylinder over time. It is controlled by a bi-metal strip of temperature-sensitive metal which bends as the temperature changes.

In good working condition, with surface scuffs and scratches in the paintwork commensurate with age and use. It will need chart recorder paper and ink for the pen, which are not supplied with this thermograph.

Summary

  • Negretti and Zambra Badge
  • Measures Temperature in Celsius
  • Serial Number: R38495
  • Range 0-56ºC
  • Chart No. 3/W/990/X
  • British Meteorological pattern thermograph which was originally made for external use in a Stevenson screen (Weather Station)
  • Gluck Engineering Timer 7D R8D
  • Approximate Size WHD: 25.8 x 17 x 12.7 cm

The timer movement works well, ticking and keeping time satisfactorily. I’m not sure how accurate the thermograph is at measuring the temperature.

All in all this represents a scarce opportunity to obtain one of these instruments for use or to add to your collection.
