Vintage NATO Magnetic Military Radio Loudspeaker LS-166/U

A nice example of a 1978 Vintage NATO Magnetic Military Radio Loudspeaker LS-166/U. In fairly good condition, with scuffs, blemishes and slight rust, it is missing a mounting plate / bracket.

It hasn't been tested and is being sold as a collectable for display only.

It has a side knob switch which can be turned to select either a military vehicle set or manpack / field communication radios. The wire terminates with a U-77/U plug:  (a heavy-duty, 10-pin male audio connector used primarily in military communication systems).

Used by many NATO forces from the 1950s-1980s, and covering the period of the Vietnam War, the LS-166/U is a standard speaker at 8 Ohms/ 3 Watts with a 8:600 built in transformer.

The speaker matches many military radio types including the GRC-6, SEM 25/35 or RT 66/67/68, and can be used with e.g. a SP-600 and R-390(A)/URR.

This particular speaker was Manufactured / Supplied by Adec.Inc. Fairfield NJ, U.S. but manufacturing was also undertaken by a number of other companies.

Stamped DLA 900-78-0-0543 which is a U.S. Department of Defense contract number issued by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) This string format is typically found stamped on vintage military surplus equipment, logistics paperwork, electronic components, or technical documentation manufactured or published under U.S government funding in the late 1970s.
