Vintage Electric London Magneta Brass Industrial Wall Clock

This is a beautiful, working, 1940s Vintage Electric London Magneta Brass Industrial Wall Clock, with 8 Inch Clock Face, made by the Magneta Time Co. Ltd, Cateret Street, London / Goblin Works, Leatherhead, Surrey.

The mechanism is labelled as follows:-

200-250 Volts, 50 Hz - self starting

Pat No. 571849 (which dates to 1943 and was filed by BRITISH VACUUM CLEANER & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. (BVC: trade name 'Goblin'), which were affiliated with the Magneta Time Co.)

Licensed Under Letters Pat. No. 366710 (which was filed in 1931)

It also has the number 18563 stamped on the rear.

This Synchronous electric mains, 200/250V 50Hz, operated clock has been rewired with a natty yellow/orange vintage style braided wire terminating in a UK plug. It retains its original electric 'Magneta' movement, which is started by turning & releasing the knob at the base of the clock. This type of clock tends to hum when first started.

The exterior is in very good cosmetic condition with a few surface blemishes / scuffs in the brass.  The inside of the clock is pretty distressed after hanging on a factory or railway office wall for many years... I've not been tempted to polish the inside as I quite like to see the patina!

The face has black, easy to read, Arabic numerals and looks pretty clean /perhaps slightly dusty. The hour and minute hands are black and are complemented by a large sweeping red seconds hand.

The surround is made from spun brass and has a 1940s Electric Magneta movement fitted in the rear. It has kept reasonable time over a 48 hour period but, like any clock of this age, it would probably benefit from a professional clean to ensure perfect time-keeping and maximum visual appeal.

A lovely looking retro clock just waiting for the perfect wall to hang on!
