Vintage Brass Telegraph Device

This Vintage Brass Telegraph Device is a real mystery to me!  I don't know exactly how old it is, (early 20th Century?), who made it as there are not discernible maker's marks or what it was used for, and I can't find another like it!

Is it part of a telegraph sounder / relay or a crystal-to-crystal (Perikon) radio detector?

It is being sold as a collectible for display only. I haven't been tempted to polish it as some people prefer to see the original patina.

In fair condition, with scuffs, blemishes and pitting on the brass.

Approximate Sounder Measurements:

• Height: 8.5 cm
  
• Base Depth:  10 cm 

Despite its defects it makes a very interesting curio, featuring two brass thumb screws which move a screw forward/backwards making a contact with a metal vertical wheel, and open / close an aperture in the housing.

Even if you aren’t a collector of telegraph or early communications radio equipment, you can’t failed to be impressed by the design. It would look wonderful as a paperweight or a desk ornament. An interesting Gizmo or Gadget to talk about in the office or a vintage telegraphy museum!
