1930s Pifco All In One Pocket Voltmeter Ammeter

This 1920s/ 1930s Pifco All In One Pocket Voltmeter Ammeter is a wonderful little device. It has a white Ivorine back with maroon-brown bakelite surround, and was made for PIFCO, Manchester, UK: it is marked ‘Foreign’.

The unit has not been tested and is being sold as a collectible, for display only.

It is in very good cosmetic condition but with a few scuffs and some loss of chrome coating commensurate with age and use. Its test leads are stored in the rear of the meter. The instructions are printed on the ivorine back and are slightly faded but legible.

A nice addition to a vintage technology collection or would make a great desk ornament!

This 1930s version has the British patent numbers 337881 and 322558.

The Pifco ‘All in One’ pocket multimeter measured the following:-

0-40 Milliamps
0-240 Volts (R=6000Ω) high tension
0-8 Volts (R= 200Ω) low tension
Valve Test
Circuit test

A 1.5 Volt battery/cell fits inside the unit (not included).

Ivorine is an unusual type of plastic made from formaldehyde and casein protein extracted from skimmed milk. It is highly susceptible to moisture and is easily discoloured.
