Vintage USAFOIL SHIMSTOCK BRASS Container
This is a very nice advertising tin: Vintage USAFOIL SHIMSTOCK BRASS Container. The container is made from metal and has very clear black print on a yellow painted surface including:-
Pre-eminent for packing and aligning bearings.
Indispensable in Garages and Engineering Works
Obtainable from all leading motor factors and engineering stores
A shim is a thin, tapered or wedged shaped material used to fill small gaps or spaces in objects. Some of the original brass shims are still in the container. Hence it weighs ~ 0.45Kg!
The diameter of the tin is approximately 7.5cm or 3″.
The original contents were as follows:-
- 0.002 x 2 ½” wide
- 0.003 x 2 ½” wide
- 0.004 x 2 ½” wide
- 0.005 x 2 ½” wide
- 0.010 x 2 ½” wide
- 0.015 x 2 ½” wide
I’m not sure which thicknesses have been used.
It probably dates to the 1940s/50s but we can’t be absolutely sure.
A great piece for collectors of advertising ephemera, restoration of Classic Cars, and Engineering related collectibles.
