Antique Eagle Lock Company Tetraskelion Padlock & Key
This is a very nice Antique Eagle Lock Company Tetraskelion Padlock & Key. At least that is what I think it is! Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about locks but the swastika (tetraskelion) logo has been attributed to the Eagle Lock company in some forums. The symbol has absolutely nothing to do with Nazis or the third Reich. This style of cross is an ancient Indo-European symbol denoting prosperity and good health, and is a scared symbol in Buddhism and Hinduism. FIR is also stamped on the other side of the padlock.
The lock dates to the end of the 1800s/early 1900s and is made from brass/steel. It has two original keys, both of which can open the lock. In fairly good condition, with some rust to the keys and the U-shaped shackle.
Approximate Dimensions of padlock:
- Height (including shackle): 4cm
- Width: 3cm
- Depth: 0.5cm
