1970’s Boxed N-Gauge Hornby Minitrix N203: Britannia Steam Locomotive with Tender.

For all Model Railway/ Railroad enthusiasts and collectors: this is a really nice example of a N Gauge Hornby Minitrix N203 ‘Britannia Steam Locomotive’ 70000 with tender, dating from the 1970’s. It appears in the 1st Edition of the 1973 Hornby Minitrix N-Gauge Model Railway Catalogue.

Britannia Locomotive 70000
Britannia 70000

The model is a replica of the British Rail Standard Class 7 70000 Britannia.  This locomotive is apparently famous for pulling the funeral train of King George VI from Norfolk to London following his death in February 1952 at the Royal residence of ‘Sandringham House’, Norfolk. Britannia was withdrawn in May 1966, after 15 years of service.

The N Gauge Hornby Minitrix N203 model locomotive and tender are boxed in a typical Minitrix  box. The box is in ‘used’ condition, with scuffs/ tears in the cardboard and styrene: see photos. The original paper instruction leaflet (TRIX MANGOLD GmbH)  is folded into the side of the box lid.

The steam locomotive and tender are in excellent condition and have never been run. All buffers and couplings are intact. It can be seen working in the following two Youtube videos: please excuse the use of the expletive in the second video…
