Vintage Iridescent Glass bead necklace
This is a really nice Vintage Iridescent Glass bead necklace. The rainbow colours reflecting from its surface are quite mesmerising depending on the lighting conditions and viewing angle.
The front of the necklace comprises a 2.5cm length, ovoid shaped, glass bead graduating in size to beads ~0.7cm in length towards the rear.
The back of the necklace has a silver coloured spring ring clasp. It is strung on silver coloured wire.
The necklace measures approximately 43cm (17″ end to end), and can be worn as short as 38cm (15″), depending on where the clasp is hooked.
The necklace is in good vintage condition. It would look very pretty worn with a little black dress or vintage clothing!
Some Trivia For You From Wikipedia!
Iridescence (also known as goniochromism) is the phenomenon of certain surfaces that appear to change colour as the angle of view or the angle of illumination changes e.g. soap bubbles and sea shells. It is often created by structural coloration (microstructures that interfere with light).
The word ‘Iridescence’ is derived partly from the Greek ‘Iris’ (rainbow) and the Latin suffix ‘ascent’ (Having a tendency towards). The Greek goddess Iris was the personification of the rainbow: a messenger of the gods.
‘Goniochromism’ is derived from the Greek words ‘gonia’, meaning angle, and ‘chroma’ (colour).
