Description

Antique Stoneware Denby Bourne Pottery Hot Water Bottle

Antique Stoneware Denby Bourne Pottery Hot Water Bottle. It was manufactured by Joseph Bourne & Son which went on to form Denby Pottery.
The foot warmer is cream coloured with a screw stoneware stopper in brown, and a brown carrying knob/hand grip. There is no maker’s mark but it is inscribed with a “B” at one end.

These foot warmers were used as a hot water bottle to warm beds, and feet in unheated houses and carriages. They are very heavy and make great door stops! My Great Aunt also used to keep one on her kitchen window sill with water in and a small bunch of fresh herbs or lavender!

Approximate Measurements

30cm/ 12″ width
15cm/ 6″ height
12.3cm depth.

The foot warmer is in good condition with no cracks or chips. It does have manufacturing defects and the rubber around the stopper has degraded with age.
