WW2 British B2 Spy Radio Set Receiver Type 3 Mk II

This wonderful looking piece is a WW2 British B2 Spy Radio Set Receiver Type 3 Mk II. Often referred to just as the B2 spy set, the receiver was probably made by the Marconi Company or the Radio Communication Department of the SOE (Special Operations Directive), based at Stonebridge Park, during WW2.

The receiver has a coverage from 3.1 to 15.5 MHz divided over three ranges. It is in pretty good cosmetic condition with surface blemishes and scratches commensurate with age and use. It has not been tested.

Interestingly, the receiver actually has a serial number 90827, which seems a bit strange for a piece of spy kit. The scale read out is covered by a piece of magnifying plexiglass.

Approximate Size (WHD): 24.2 x 11.4 x 10.3 cm

The receiver (RX), (along with a transmitter (TX), power supply unit (PSU), Morse Key and spares kit), would have been available to agents, resistance groups and special forces in occupied territories. The whole set, designed by John Brown of SOE, would have been carried around in a leather suitcase or dropped by parachute in two identically sized transit cases, and it's not lightweight! We only have this receiver from the B2 spy set.
