I think it is ebonite and brass underneath the black paint. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eI have given it a gentle wipe down but it would benefit from a good clean in those hard to reach parts!\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eThere is some rust on the non black coated metal (steel). The knob is ceased solid.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eIt's very heavy!\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEven if you aren’t a collector of early telegraph or communications equipment, you can’t failed to be impressed by the design. It would look wonderful as a paperweight or a desk ornament.
