The device was invented in 1907 by Shore Instruments Manufacturing Company: see schematic from the original patent: \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/patents.google.com\/patent\/US962790A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003eUS962790A\u003c\/a\u003e. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis particular instrument, No. 22295, probably dates to the 1920s and is in wonderful condition. We think that a few parts are missing, including the rubber pressure squeeze bulb, glass from the magnifier, and the scale: replacements could easily be found for the first two.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe wooden box has internal scuffs and scratches commensurate with age and use.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt still makes for a very interesting display item.
