Vintage 1957 BP61 Bush Valve Radio Suitcase Style

This lovely looking stylish radio is a Vintage 1957 BP61 Bush Valve Radio Suitcase Style. A great design, it resembles a small suitcase!

Please note that this radio only has two bands: MW and LW. No VHF capability. It has not been tested, as you can no longer buy the correct batteries, and is, therefore, being sold as a collectible for display only.

Originally, the radio was powered by a 90V HT battery and a 1.5V LT battery for the valve filaments. However, these batteries have been obsolete for many years. To power the radio, collectors either use an off board mains power supply to deliver the required voltages, or construct an HT battery stack from 10x PP3 9 volt batteries with the LT being provided by a D cell in the appropriate battery holder.

The wiring still has its original 3/4 pin battery plugs and these too would require modification for modern power methods.

In good cosmetic condition. There are a few blemishes on the case and pitting on the metal. There are two cracks in the fabric covered handle which have not yet broken but they could do with a little tender loving care.
