1940s Vintage Turner Challenger BX Bullet Microphone

This Art Deco style mic is a Vintage Turner Challenger BX Bullet Microphone. With a futuristic design dating to the 1940s, this is the crystal version of the microphone. It has not been tested and is sold as a display item only.

In pretty good cosmetic condition, with scuffs and surface blemishes in the brown Metalustre surface commensurate with age and use. Made by The Turner Co. of Cedar Rapids (IA), USA, which was the biggest microphone manufacturer in the U.S during the 1950s. The company was founded in 1931 and closed in 1979.

The crystal BX (brown metalustre finish) and CX (chrome finish) series, and equivalent BD and CD dynamic models, were originally intended as general purpose microphones for PA systems and home recorders. Today, they are known as excellent harp mics for use with a harmonica.
