1920s Kit For Making Basketweave / Honeycomb RF Coils Used In Early Radio

This 1920s Kit For Making Basketweave / Honeycomb RF Coils Used In Early Radio has a very interesting provenance.

It is accompanied by a 1969 letter from Mr Povey of the GPO Museum in Taunton, Somerset, to Mr Profaze of the Science Museum, London, explaining the purpose of the kit!

I assume honeycomb coils, used in early radio broadcasting, must have been quite expensive, so these kits enabled you to make your own.

There are two wood 'bobbins' available, as well as the brass pins that would have been used in conjunction with cotton covered wire (not included) for winding.

A lovely piece of radio communication history!
