Antique Copper Lustreware Urn Vase

This Antique Copper Lustreware Urn Vase is ceramic and has a brown ground pottery band bearing an embossed basket of colourful flowers. The pottery is covered with a copper lustre metallic glaze.

It was probably made in Staffordshire, England, in the mid 19th Century, (approx 1850), when Copper Lustreware was at its most desirable in candlelit homes. They brighten up the most dark corner when placed on a candlelit mirrored surface!

It is in fair antique condition with no cracks or restoration. It is discoloured, with surface scuffs and scratches commensurate with age and use.

A lovely antique, (over 100 years old), which deserves a place in a retro home!

According to Wikipedia

Lustreware/Lusterware  is a type of pottery or porcelain with a metallic glaze that gives the effect of iridescence. It is produced by metallic oxides in an overglaze finish, which is given a second firing at a lower temperature in a "muffle kiln", or a reduction kiln, excluding oxygen.

It became popular in the Staffordshire Potteries in the 19th Century when revived by Wedgwood.
