1930s Humpty Dumpty Lingard Pottery Yellow Teapot

This is a very unusual 1930s Humpty Dumpty Lingard Pottery Yellow Teapot, made by Lingard, Webster and Jones at the Swan Bank Pottery, High Street, Tunstall; one of the many Staffordshire potteries. They produced all sorts of novelty and kitsch teapots, many of which are highly collectible. The company closed in 1972.

It is in good condition, with no restoration work or cracks. It does have crazing and manufacturing defects including bubbles, glazing marks and pin holes. There is also a very slight chip underneath the base of the lid, which is not visible unless viewed at an angle when the lid is out of the teapot.

Approximate Size:-

  • Base Width: 12.6cm (5")
  • Base Depth: 9.6cm
  • Height (including lid): 15cm
  • Length (Handle to spout): 18.5cm

This style of teapot was produced in both yellow and green with the Nursery Rhyme character, Humpty Dumpty, sitting on the wall with his legs forming part of the teapot body (wall) and the lid as his head. The brick seams and key parts of the figure are gilded.

The teapot has a printed 1930s Lingard back mark, which is quite hard to read, and an impressed back mark:-
