1930s Ringtons Maling Square Two Temples Willow Tea Caddy

This is a wonderfully vibrant 1930s Ringtons Maling Square Two Temples Willow Tea Caddy with round lid. It is a blue and white Pagoda style jar with the iconic Ringtons ‘Two Temples’ pattern on each side, which looks similar to ‘Blue Willow.’ Transfer printed, it has more of the appearance of Flow Blue as the transfer print has faded and is blurred in places.

Approximate Max. Size

Base Width: 9.2cm
Height (including lid): 19.4cm
Internal Neck Width:- 5cm
Lid width:- 7cm
Maximum Width:- 11.7cm

Condition

  • Paint flecks on the outside of the caddy
  • Hairline Crack in the lid
  • Blurring of the transfer print

In fairly good display condition, there is a hairline crack in the lid. This defect is not noticeable when the lid is in situ. Age related crazing is also in evidence. Apparently, the jar was also left in a room when someone painted in the past as there are white flecks of paint on the outside the jar. I have removed as many as I can but some still remain!

This particular tea caddy was made for Ringtons by the famous North East England pottery, Maling, unlike the later 1980s/90s official reproductions, which were usually made by Wade. Modern Chinese reproductions are also circulating in the market.

In good condition, an original Ringtons Pagoda tea caddy is worth approximately £235, we are offering this one for less than ½ this price at £84.99 (excluding shipping).
