Vintage Luxo ASA Angled Extending Microphone Boom Arm
Luxo Vintage Angled Extending Microphone Boom Arm
This Luxo Vintage Angled Extending Microphone Boom Arm is a very interesting find. It came out of an old Recording Studio in London a few years ago. We've had it quite a long time, intending to turn it in to an angled floor standing lamp but never quite getting round to it!
It can be used at several different angles and then folded in half for easy storage when not required.
- When Folded: 58 cm;
- When Straight: 102.5 cm
In pretty good condition with scratches, rusting and discolouration from years of use and then storage. The black coating on the arms also has white flecks in it, which look to be paint.
One end of the arm was used for mounting the microphone and the other end for mounting in a rigid stand or for clamping to a desk. There are no mounting brackets included. I have no idea what weight of microphone this arm can carry.
The arm has been threaded with a microphone cable terminating in a ITT Cannon XLR-3-12C 3 pin Audio plug at one end and a 3-hole connector at the other: (ITT Cannon Patent 2869095 published in 1959 for ribbed electrical connectors).
At first glance you would think it was based on an Anglepoise lamp but it was actually made by Luxo ASA, founded by Norwegian Industrialist, Jac Jacobsen, in 1937. Luxo ASA (known as Jac Jacobsen AS until 1966) developed portable and adjustable desktop lighting products that used a counterbalanced arm mechanism.
A nice collectible for a vintage themed recording studio or radio station, or you could upcycle as a lamp!
