1960s Decca Radar Moving Coil Multimeter Made By Pullin

This wonderful 1960s Decca Radar Moving Coil Multimeter Made By Pullin has a really interesting background and synergy: (the whole of its background is greater than the sum of its parts).

It was made by Measuring Instruments Pullin Ltd (MIP), based at the Electrin Works, Winchester Street, London W3, but on behalf of Decca Radar Ltd!

Not only was this little meter made by two illustrious manufacturers but it spent part of its life on the MV Maplin; a converted Mine Sweeper operating out of the London Port Authority during the 1960s!

The meter and  transit case have the following markings:-

Transit Case is scribed:

MV Maplin Engineer 'B' Watch
MV Maplin PLA
Engine Room
The meter is marked:
Type 4233
Serial Number M25224
MIP Logo
A.C.V 1000  Special W/Form
Both the meter and transit case are in good condition with some surface scuffs and scratches commensurate with age and use. The meter is provided with leads and probes.
A fantastic piece of vintage tech with a very illustrious pedigree!

Some Trivia For You!

MV Maplin was named by the London Port Authority (LPA) after a sandbank in the River Thames Estuary. Launched as a Minesweeper in 1955, she was previously known as HMS Polsham. She was bought from the Admiralty by LPA in 1967 for use as a survey vessel.

Pullin was a highly regarded measuring instrumentation manufacturer whom obviously produced items branded for Decca Radar who were famous radar producers for marine vessels, and later, civilian and military aircraft.

Audiophiles will recognise the Decca name as producers of e.g. vinyl records; Decca Radar was an offshoot of the Decca Record/Gramophone company established during WW2 when resources were diverted for the war effort.
