1930s Children's Arrow Intercom Telephone Set Vintage Toy

This is a very nice Vintage 1930s Children’s Arrow Intercom Telephone Set Vintage Toy. The toy was by Arrow Motors, 8-10 Carlisle Road, The Hyde, London NW9, England: I can’t find any reference to the company but the factory area is now occupied by a number of small companies.

An expensive toy when first released and increasingly difficult to find in such good cosmetic condition.
The design of the telephones is based on the 1930s British Classic GPO 200 Series Pyramid phone.

It comprises the original box, two black bakelite telephones, the instruction booklet, and an original silk covered Extension wire. The idea being that the two children (or adults) could talk to one another via the phones when located in different parts of the house! Apparently, they were manufactured without a bell/ringer.

This would have been a very expensive toy when many people in the UK didn’t have landline phones and mobiles were still a SciFi dream.

The box is worn and stained, with the lid held together by sticky tape. The small phones are in excellent cosmetic condition.

Each phone set required four 4 volt pocket lamp batteries: Batteries are not included and this type are no longer available to buy. We have tested the phones using an external circuit and we did manage to get a calling tone.

The box is labelled: –
