Antique French Made Pocket Telephone Receiver For The National Tele Co

This lovely little item is an Antique French Made Pocket Telephone Receiver For The National Tele Co. Made from bakelite and chromed brass. Designed to be small enough to fit into a large pocket and be flame proof.

The National Telephone Company was a precursor of British telecom (BT). Established in 1881 and absorbed by the Post Office in 1911. This receiver, therefore, dates to the late 1800s/early 1900s during the reign of Queen Victoria!

Measuring approximately 5.7cm in diameter, it formed the receiver/transmitting part of a pocket type of Mining Tapping Telephone (used in connection with Pattern Nos. B380/B365/B370/B375).
