WW2 USAF Ultra Violet Cockpit Light E/L AN3038-1 Type X263
This WW2 USAF Ultra Violet Cockpit Light E/L AN3038-1 Type X263 was made by Electronic Laboratories Inc. (E/L), 122, West New York Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S, during the 1940s.
The light is labelled with the AN code, type, company address, and Government order number, as shown in the following image:-
The light was mounted near the instrument panel, via the mounting bracket (labelled N.A.F 48379-3), and was used to light the cockpit instrument panel during night flying. This type of light was used on the B-17 Flying Fortress, B24 Liberator and B-26 Marauder.
The previous owner used it in his workshop and attached a plug to it. We are selling this as a display item only and it hasn’t been tested.
E/L were a short lived company whom are better known for making radios under the brand name ‘Orthosonics’. They turned to making electronics during WW2 and closed in the late 1940s.
