ALB Canal Ware Pottery Mini Creamer and Sugar Bowl

This small vintage, hand painted, ALB Canal Ware Pottery Mini Creamer and Sugar Bowl would make a lovely addition to a tea tray for two.

The dark brown (brown betty) earthenware is simply, but beautifully decorated, with embossed red polka dots and gilding. The style is known as canal ware in reference to the art used on canal boats & barges.

The set is in good vintage condition with no cracks, chips or restoration. There is some slight loss of the gilding in some areas.

Approximate Measurements

  • Jug:
    • height 7.5cm (3″), width (handle to lip) 8cm (3.2″),

  • Bowl:
    • Maximum Diameter 8.5cm (3.4″),
    • Base diameter 5cm (2″)

The maker’s mark has practically disappeared but it is a well known pattern by the Stoke-on-Trent pottery, Alcock, Lindley and Bloor (ALB). It has been in our family for over 40 years old and dates to about the 1950s.

The Jug has the pattern number 1161
The Bowl has the number 1160 and MADE IN ENGLAND.

These items were made to accompany a 2-cup teapot and would look lovely with a plain Brown Betty teapot.

NB: The photos are taken with/without flash, hence the differences in colour. The items are a dark brown.
