Vintage Bradford Silver Charm Enamel Crest Travel Shield

This is a very nice Vintage Bradford Silver Charm Enamel Crest Travel Shield dating to about the 1960s.

Many of these charms were made in Birmingham by A. Smith. This one is not hallmarked with a Birmingham assay mark or A.S but is marked SILVER. This indicates 925 Sterling Silver. It has a baked enamel Bradford City (UK) shield (Coat of Arms) on the face of the charm.

The shield is based on the pre-1976 County Borough of Bradford Coat of Arms.

According to Wikipedia: –

The buglehorns refer to the service by which the manor of Bradford was granted by John of Gaunt to John Northrop of Manningham: upon the blowing of a horn on St Martin’s day Manningham was to wait on John and his heirs and conduct them safely to Pontefract Castle.

The charm measures approximately 1cm (length) x 0.5cm (width)

This would make a nice addition to a travel shield silver charm bracelet or as a collectible.
