Art Nouveau Style Sterling Silver Agate Brooch Pin
Art & Crafts or Art Nouveau Style Sterling Silver Agate Brooch, with soldered C clasp. It is a very pretty lace brooch, with a celtic flair!
In good vintage condition. Slight surface scratching. It measures, approximately, 4cm (1.6″) in length x 1.5cm (0.6″) in height.
The stone looks to be a purple agate cabochon, (not confirmed), and is enclosed to the back and sides with sterling silver. The silver is 0.925 Sterling Silver.
The hallmark on the back probably says Sterling but it could equally say Staarlimu! There is no sign of a maker’s mark but is very much in the style of Charles Horner of Halifax, Yorkshire, UK, except that British manufacturers tended to use the pictorial hallmarks, and weren’t stamped Sterling.
It’s age and origin are still a bit of a mystery but thank you to the Vintage & Antiques Community on Google + for their help in trying to identify the origin of the brooch.
