Vintage Royal Worcester Storage Jar/ 6 pint Cooking/ Marmite/ Bean Pot/ Barrel
This is a lovely 1970s example of an Evesham Gold Vintage Royal Worcester Storage Jar/ 6 pint Cooking/ Marmite/ Bean Pot/ Barrel.
This particular large piece was ‘Made in England’ and is a seconds (as shown by the cross on the base): although any defects are difficult to find externally. Inside the barrel there is a small raised lump projecting from the base, which I have been unable to photograph.
A marmite (pronounced Mar-Meet not Mar-Myte as in that horrible ‘love it, hate it’ yeast spread) is a type of French cooking pot used for slow cooking/braising, soups and stews.
The Evesham range features assorted fruit and corn cob still-life designs that look virtually lifelike. These designs are beautifully contrasted against a white background and striking gold trim! The Evesham range was originally designed by Prof. Robert Baker, R V Ruyckevelt & the Worcester design team in 1962.
We have a a few pieces for sale, which all belonged to my Mum-in-Law and were only ever displayed on a Welsh Dresser.
